People can be passionate about their pizza, both for and against. I know people that think it’s insulting to have to live in the same town with Cappy’s. Others, obviously given its win in this category, think it’s the best pizza in town. I fall closer to the latter group than the former. Cappy’s has a lot of fans, but I’m looking for this category to generate a lot more heat next year. Some of the best pizza places around town weren’t even nominate.
I suspect Cappy’s was nominated as much for their ambiance as their pie. It has a funky, laid-back vibe that for some turns into lackadaisical service. My experience with service, however, has always been excellent.
Cappy’s serves NY-style and Chicago-style. Their NY-style isn’t quite as thin as the best NYC has to offer, and their Chicago can sometimes be a little soupy. However, it’s these differences that make it a favorite in Tampa.
They’re located in Seminole Heights at 4910 N. Florida Ave., at the corner of Florida and South Street.
