Cilantro Indian Cuisine

We made it to Cilantro Indian Cuisine on 56th street tonight. For a first visit it was everything I could have wanted in a new Indian restaurant. We started with a samosa, which was wonderful, made even tastier with the spicy curry. JB had the Vegetable Malai Kofta, and I had the Tandoori Mixed Grill. The Malai Kofta is veggie version of the more traditional kofta meatballs. The mixed grill came with shrimp, lamb, chicken, and, I believe, goat. The curries were all great. The nan was great. The meal was great. The service was prompt and welcoming. The next time I go I’ll check out the spiciness levels, and maybe try a paneer dish.

Cilantro seems to be an import from Jacksonville. Unfortunately, their webpage doesn’t mention anything about their Tampa location. I do know that they are not open on Mondays. I assume that they have a lunch buffet.

Here is a .pdf of their menu
, though this version may be slightly out-of-date.

I waited 45 mins for my meal, which was not made from scratch. The service was extremely slow. The food I ordered did not taste that great. It was definately overpriced. To top it off there were flys which makes me question the hygeine of the restraunt.

  • I stumbled across your blog when searching for reviews of Cilantro. My DH and I love Indian Cuisine, but have been disappointed time and time again with our old haunt, the Taj. Based on the reviews on your old blog, we are willing to give Cilantro a try. Thank you! I’ll be back to add my review after we dine there tonight. :-)

  • Loved it! :-) Great food at a great price! My DH and I arrived for an early evening meal and there was no wait. Our service was very prompt as well. We also enjoyed the Samosas, which looked and tasted homemade. The portions were very generous. The Chicken Tikki Masala came drenched in tomato creamy sauce and the chicken was very tender and moist. The garlic nan bread was a great compainion to this dish.

  • Wonderful! I’ve always enjoyed my visits there.

  • [...] children prohibit us to enjoy and typically, that means Sushi or Indian cuisine.  When we heard raves reviews about a fairly new establishment, Cilantro, we were willing to give it a try as we have been [...]
