Local gadfly Terry Neal is again pestering the city to add speed tables to River Hills Drive. He and some of his Temple Crest neighbors sure are a persistent bunch.
“Neal, Linda Hewitt and other Temple Crest Civic Association members have tried for nearly 20 years to persuade Tampa’s transportation department to install traffic-calming devices, such as speed humps, on River Hills Drive east of 40th Street.”
Personally, I love speed humps, speed bumps, speed tables, speed cushions, and raised intersections. I’m not sure why everyone is in such a hurry, but I think the quality of life in Tampa could be increased ten-fold if everyone would just slow down. A great place to start would be if people simply drove the speed limit. The article also notes that a recent study about River Hills Drive found “that 85 percent of the drivers exceeded the 30 mph speed limit by an average of 8 mph.”
