Paranormal Legislative Activity

Clever parody of Paranormal Activity in support of readthebill.org.

From the Sunlight Foundation:

“Congress should change its rules to require that non-emergency legislation and conference reports be posted on the Internet for 72 hours before debate begins.”

Downsize DC also has a recommended Read the Bills Act. This is the first time I’ve seen Downsize DC. They promote a lot of issues that lie between Libertarianism and Liberalism (like ending corporate welfare and ending the drug war), but are definitely coming at politics from a libertarian slant. From a more conservative angle is Let Freedom Ring, who also propose legislation requiring bills to be posted online 72 hours before they are voted on.

Minority Leader Boehner is an advocate of reading the bill.

And Pelosi lived up to her commitment to post the healthcare bill online 72 hours before the vote, so American citizens could read the bill and inform themselves.

So, with something with such widespread support, why is it taking so long to pass a law to make all considered legislation available online at least 72 hours before it comes to a vote?
