Florida Lege Hates Money

I wish more movies were made in Florida. It seems like such a perfect place for year-round shoots. Why don’t more movies shoot here?

Oh, yeah. The Lege cut the incentive program from $25 million to $5 million in February 2008. Let’s see, what were we getting for that $25 million?

“Figures show the entertainment industry brought in more than $29.2 billion to Florida’s economy in 2007, affecting more than 200,000 jobs.”

Obviously, any industry that’s actually profiting and creating jobs needs to be cut. How much you want to bet that the $20 mil cut from movie incentives went directly into the pocket of some near-bankrupt developer?

Here’s The Hollywood Reporter on Film in Florida.
