As JB mentioned earlier, her folks came into town, and we had to feed them while they were here. Since neither of us cooks much, that meant a lot of eating out.
Mimi’s Cafe for breakfast was tasty, but for some reason they put the four of us at a particularly small table, while reasonably sized tables sat unused all around us.
Everybody liked First Watch, which has proven to be the most reliable breakfast/brunch place to take out-of-town guests.
The first night they arrived we ate at Acropolis. I guess we were too early for the entertainment everyone mentions. But, that’s good, because I don’t really like shows with my dinner. The food was great! The Acropolis is definitely going into the restaurant rotation.
The last night they were here we went to Estela’s. Wow. Estela’s isn’t for everyone. Me, for example. Those who find ketchup too spicy will be delighted with Estela’s salsa. The rest of the food is equally bland. Nothing really tasted bad, and there was enough of it, but it didn’t really have much of a taste at all, beyond the yellow cheese that saturated everything.
We had pizza at Cappy’s one night. The last time I was there I had the Chicago-style, this time we ate NY-style. Everybody loved it. I sure do wish they would take cards, tho.
And, one night we picked up some take-out Chinese at Yummy House (2202 W. Waters Ave).
Before we headed up to Yummy House we had some beers at New World Brewery, without a doubt my favorite Tampa beer joint.
So far, Yummy House and Pho Quyen are my favorite Asian restaurants, but I haven’t tried that many. The in-laws got duck, and didn’t seem too happy with it, but I don’t know what the Hell they were thinking. The evening started with them wanting to get “something healthy, like a salad.” But, they shot down all our ideas. Apparently their idea of healthy is not Grass Root, but greasy duck. Oy.
Thanks to everyone who made suggestions!
