I suspect there are other bars in Tampa, but I haven’t had any desire to look for them since I stumbled into New World Brewery. New World has everything I’m looking for in a bar, delicious beer (I’ve been partial to the Belhaven lately, but they have a wide assortment of Belgians, and microbrews), a great free jukebox, and idyllic outdoor seating. The beer garden is a wonderful place to smoke a cigar, watch the burbling fountain, and unwind at the end of a long work week. There’s also a cool interior if the afternoon heat gets to be too much. Also inside are pinball machines and foosball tables. The bartenders are great, and there’s music later in the evening, but I’ve never stuck around long enough to check it out.

New World is at 1313 E 8th Ave. They open around 3. Keep in mind that they don’t take credit or debit cards. They have an ATM at the bar, but there’s a $2 service charge, so it’s wise to have some cash on hand.

After 5 they serve pizza. Be sure and try the black bean pizza. It sounds odd, but tastes delicious.

NWB is also dog friendly, so feel free to bring Shep along to help you soak up some brew. They have a MySpace page which seems infrequently checked.
