I made it over to Tank’s Tap Room for a late lunch last week and almost didn’t find it. Tank’s is tucked away in the corner of a shopping mall near the corner of Fletcher and North Dale Mabry. It’s located next to The Melting Pot.

I did not get the Tankenstein which one commenter noted was “as big as your head.” The Tankenstein is one pound of meat, and they sell a triple-patty version for $32. Here’s the description from the menu -

“Char-grilled beef patty goodness, piled with fries, shredded beef, cheese, crushed cherry peppers, cole slaw, blue cheese dressing, L.T.O., & topped with a fried egg. All on a toasted garlic ciabatta roll.”

I settled for the classic burger with a half pound patty for $7. I choose the small outdoor patio to eat my lunch. The interior was too dark to take a picture with my phone camera. The burger was good enough. After the debacle at Selmon’s I was happy to have a burger I could finish. Tank’s serves an average burger. The meat was cooked well-done, though I was asked how I wanted it cooked and asked for medium. And, the meat was a little gristly, but not too bad. I washed it down with a porter and read some news. In all a perfectly pleasant way to spend a lunchtime.

They have more than burgers (or “burghers” as they call them), including wings and other appetizers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fish tacos, fajitas, pork chops, salads, and a kids menu. They serve falafels for the vegetarian beer drinkers at your table. This is a pretty full menu for a bar.

There is some Pittsburgh Steelers paraphernalia on the wall, and a post on their webpage from August says - “DON’T BE A FRIGGIN JAGGOFF. COME TO TANK’S AND WATCH DEM STILLERZ KICK SOME ASS.” I’m guessing that maybe the guy who runs the place is a Steelers fan?

They have a pretty good selection of beer with 40+ brews on tap and hundreds more in bottles. If I lived in this part of town I could see this being my go-to local pub. Its only drawback is that it’s located in a strip mall. (Seriously Tampa, we need to talk about this over-reliance on strip malls).
