I needed cheese. Something a little bit fancy. I decided this would be a good time to hit the Old World Cheese Shop and check it out. I had noticed it on my trips to Cilantro’s and told myself that the next time I needed cheese I’d try it out.
Guess what the Old World Cheese Shop doesn’t sell?
Okay, I’m exaggerating. They have some brie, and some tasty hand-mixed cheese spreads that you can sample, and a few other pre-packaged cheeses held behind the counter. But, it seems like the Old World Cheese Shop is really a sandwich place. Something I never would have guessed from the name on the store.
Even though I was looking for a cheese shop, I’ll probably visit more often for sandwiches than I would for cheese.
On my first visit I tried the muffaletta. Not quite traditional, and a little bland, but I really liked this little sandwich shop nonetheless.
Another visit a week late found me eating a Friar Tuck – “A grilled triple decker made with lean ham, sliced breast of turkey, Genoa salami, dill pickle, Fjordland cheese and Golden dressing on pumpernickel bread for $6.25.”
In addition to cheese and sandwiches they also sell a small selection of knick-knacks, some wines, and some crackers. They also do catering and sell party trays – 813-988-8707.
The Old World Cheese Shop isn’t far from where I work. I’m not sure if I’ll ever buy any cheese there, but it’s definitely worked its way into my lunchtime rotation.
Here’s a copy of their menu. As you can see it’s a little overdone with cutesy sandwich names. Everything (well, almost everything) is named after something from Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest.
