Nicki’s is my new favorite place to eat breakfast. Or it would be if it were a little closer.

A few weeks ago JB and I had to run a weekend errand in Carrollwood. We dropped into Nicki’s for a late breakfast. I liked it so much the following weekend I demanded we return. It turns out that simply driving out there for breakfast, and nothing else, was a little bit of a drive before I’ve even had my coffee.

The second weekend I ordered a Country Breakfast, an open-faced omelette covered with green onions, home fries, cheese, sausage and gravy. It has been a long time since I had such a satisfying breakfast in Tampa.

JB had the breakfast sandwich. She like it, but she wasn’t as enamored with her sandwich as I was with my decadent breakfast orgy.

If it were closer I might visit more often, but as it is, it will probably only be the occasional Saturday, when I have something else to do in that part of town, that I’ll manage to drop in. Those Saturdays, though, will be good ones.

If I had to find a quibble with Nicki’s it would be the biscuits and butter. The biscuits are a little plain and heavy (rather than delicious and fluffy) and the butter is margarine. Seriously folks, margarine (or spread, or flavored oleaginous gunk, or whatever) is worse for you than butter. I’m pretty sure that stuff is a by-product of crude oil.
