Idle Chatter: February 24, 2013

The posting pattern seems to be settling into place. Stephen King Saturdays followed by a book review on Sundays. I haven’t finished Cloud Atlas for this Sunday’s review, so I’ll select some recent favorite to recommend. And, during the week, shorter posts about stuff I come across on the Internet.

The learning-how-to-write fiction is coming along, albeit slowly. February is one of my busiest times at work, so that’s been eating into my time. Things should return to normal around the middle of March. At that point I expect to be able to devote more time to learning more about the crafting of fiction writing.

In addition to Cloud Atlas I’m also reading Girl Walks Into a Bar by Rachel Dratch and the Kree-Skrull War by Roy Thomas. I’ll get to those in more depth once I finish.

One of the best blogs I’ve found on writing is Chuck Wendig’s Terribleminds. You can either dig around in his blog looking for the various posts on writing, or pick up one of his e-books that collects all the work into one place.

If you’ve read any good books lately let me know in the comments.

As I learn more about the craft of fiction one of the things I hope to learn is the answer to this question – Why does George Saunders win a MacArthur grant while Howard Waldrop is completely ignored?
