Review - The Kite Runner
Written by dave in Tuesday, July 29th 2008
I watched the DVD of The Kite Runner the other night. My review after the jump.
Are you kidding me? This movie is just pathetic. It's long, dull, boring, tedious, self-important, and humorless. It's impossible to care about the protagonist because he's a pretentious asshole.
This is the story of a spoiled privileged brat who grows up to be terminally boring author whining about the tragic consequences of childish decisions. It's hard to sympathize with a [+]

Written by dave in Friday, July 18th 2008
Ok, I've been trying to see a lot of movies this summer, and I haven't gotten a chance to review them all, so I'm going to rank them from my favorite (so far) to least favorite (so far).
1. Speed Racer
2. Hellboy II

4. Iron Man
5. Hancock
6. The Incredible Hulk
7. Journey to the Center of the Earth (3-D)

Later today I'm going to see Mamma Mia! and [+]
Review - Hellboy II
Written by dave in Friday, July 18th 2008
For me, this was one of the most satisfying summer movies yet. The creature designs and costuming are spectacular. The movie itself is predictable enough, in the sense that you know Hellboy will be triumphant in the end, but who cares? It's a well-paced adventure, and Del Toro has a great touch at creating characters. The ladies in this movie get sort of short shrift. It would be nice to see more required of Selma [+]
Movies for Kids
Written by dave in Saturday, July 12th 2008
Over at Salon Andrew O'Hehir chooses a list of 40 great movies for kids. His top four are "Time Bandits," "Iron Giant," "The Princess Bride," and "My Neighbor Totoro."
As is the case with any such list, I agree with some, disagree with some, shake my head at some selections, and wonder why some of my favorites have been left off.
What's your favorite children's movie? [+]
Movie Reviews

Originally I wanted to write semi-substantive movie reviews for this site. At this point I need to just admit that I don't have the time to write long, thoughtful reviews. So the new strategy is mini-reviews. Some so mini as to be microscopic.
If you've seen anything on any local screens, whether theater, television, or computer that you'd like to review, or simply want to bring to my attention, please drop me a line, either in [+]
Buffalog Movie Review
Written by dave in Monday, June 2nd 2008
I was going to review the latest Indy movie, but time got away from me. Fortunately Mike at Buffalog writes about Indy and Speed Racer. Proving that he's obviously a man of good sense and great intelligence his take on the summer movies so far matches almost perfectly with my own. [+]
Speed Racer
Written by dave in Tuesday, May 13th 2008
I am one of the target demographics for this movie. Speed Racer was one of my favorite cartoons when I was about Spritle's age, and as an adult I am inordinately fond of primary colors and enamored with digital animation. I'm also inclined to root for the little guy against the wicked corporation. The things that I thought I would hate about this movie (Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, Christina Ricci) I didn't. It's a little [+]More From Humor
