I occasionally receive press releases. Most I ignore, but with a few I have posted snippets and links to the pertinent sites. I’m posting this whole release from EVOS just because I like them, and I like supporting them. (Now if they’d only take out an ad!) *** EVOS Promotes “Get Smart About Antibiotics Week” Customers to get [...] The purpose of this burger search was to be a tie-breaker. Each poll for best burger led to a deadlock, so, as editor, it seemed reasonable that I should try several of the local favorites and serve as a tie-breaker. I have, and I’m going with the Green Iguana burger. There is, however, a slight caveat. [...] Of course I had to try it. Today was the first chance I had to get over to Pane Rustica to try their burger. Creative Loafing’s Brian Ries recently crowned the Pane Rustica burger as the best in Tampa, with The Kitchen’s burger as a close runner-up. Served on focaccia rather than the traditional bun, this was [...] Tampa I Am writes that the burger at Green Iguana “was cooked perfectly medium and about a 1/2 pound of juicy flavorful beef, topped with cooked onion, avacado, and Caribbean spices, on a very soft fresh baked bun, and came with very fresh and hot crinkle cut fries.” Sounds good. I’m adding Green Iguana to my [...] Michael thinks I’ve gone about this burger comparison all wrong. My initial strategy was to compare the same burger at every establishment, just a regular burger, no cheese, cooked medium. Michael argued that I should try the signature burger at each establishment. Try the one they’re most proud of. Considering the difficulty of finding a [...] The Goody Goody burger vanished from Tampa forever in November of 2005, or so everyone thought. In November of 2007 the Pine Grove Family Restaurant announced that they had purchased the recipe from the owner of the original Goody Goody Burger and would start selling the Tampa favorite immediately. Tampanians rejoiced. The secret to the Goody [...] If Lee Roy Selmon played football like his restaurant made burgers, he never would have made it to the pros and probably would have been laughed out of Arena League Football. I was looking forward to this burger. I had every reason to think Selmon’s was going to offer up a well-executed example of the [...] I would be derelict in my duties if I didn’t take a few moments to mention the dark side of the burger. Did you know that it’s illegal for Florida schools to serve meat in their school cafeterias? House Bill 7087 (chapter 2006-074), signed into law in the summer of 2006, states that Members of [...] The burger search started yesterday with a visit to Bungalow Bistro. The Bistro was packed on Gasparilla Saturday, the ladies of the Red Hat Society arrayed around several table placed together in the center of the restaurant. Rather than take up limited table space for a solo lunch I ordered a burger to [...] Ok. Rules for the burger contest. Burgers will be rated on their messiness factor, my favorite burgers are uncontrollably drippy, oozy, and messy. They will be judged on their size. I’m not saying that monster burgers are best, only that it’s something one should note in a review. Bread, condiments, toppings and sides will also [...] Today when Dave called to tell me that he was ready to eat lunch, he also gave me some good news – the Evo’s that we’ve been awaiting for about two years has finally opened! It’s in the University Mall shopping complex, somewhere between the Marble Slab Creamery and the Sweetbay (can’t recall the [...] (This post was originally written by Michelle B. for Eating Tampa.) Last night, while watching the boob tube, I saw a new commercial for Wendy’s. They have launched a new 99 Cent double meat patty cheeseburger. They are calling it the Stack Attack. This got me thinking. Has Wendy’s succumbed to the More Is Better mentality [...] Oxford Press recently released their Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink, and the editor has posted this quiz about hamburger chains on the Oxford University Press blog. Here are the first three questions. The answers are at the OUP page. 1. The first national hamburger chain was:A. McDonald’sB. Bob’s Big BoyC. White TowerD. White CastleE. [...] Matt at Florida Food Hound eats at Five Guys Famous Burgers and likes it. I had a Five Guys burger the other day and have to agree that they are tasty. Matt particularly liked the fresh, thick french fries. Personally, I prefer the thin and crispy kind of fries, but there’s no denying they come plentiful [...] |
