When Sansom’s indictment was dismissed by a judge I thought the story was over. Kudos to State Attorney Willie Meggs for persisting in his pursuit of justice and charging Ray Sansom, Jay Odum, & Bob Richburg with grand theft.
“In a surprise escalation of the case against ousted House Speaker Ray Sansom, a state prosecutor [...]
More indictments for this awesome representative of Floridian politics.
Thanks to Alex Leary for all of his tremendous work following the sordid career of Ray Sansom.
“The felony perjury charge is based on newly surfaced documents, including an e-mail Sansom received from the college president indicating that developer Jay Odom, who also was indicted Wednesday, would use [...]
Just this morning I was thinking it was about time for an update on the shenanigans of Ray Sansom, and then I see on Pushing Rope today that a grand jury has indicted the former Florida House Speaker.
Northwest Florida State College president Bob Richburg was also indicted.
Sinfonian at Blast Off! catches this moment of rank hypocrisy in Sansom’s sweetheart university gig.
“But now after Sansom has quit the job and lost the speakership, Richburg is not rushing to fill the job once again.”
Read the rest here.
Ray Sansom is out as speaker, and Larry Cretful is in.
Is this the end of Sansom’s shenanigans? I’m betting – no.
Most recent news first – a grand jury has decided that Sansom’s sweetheart job offer deserves further investigation. Alex Leary has more.
“A grand jury decided Monday to look into allegations that House Speaker Ray Sansom abused his position by taking a six-figure job at his hometown college.”

St. Pete Times columnist Howard Troxler provides a nice [...]
Blogging USF professor Sherman Dorn is also keeping a Sansomwatch. But, is it all over?
It seems that Sansom resigned his part-time, six figure job at Northwest Florida State College.
Good for him! With any luck Sansom’s conscience got the better of him and he decided that the appearance of impropriety damaged the public’s trust in [...]
Attorney General Bill McCollum says the AG’s office doesn’t have jurisdiction in public corruption matters. Hmmm, I think there’s a word for this, oh yeah! Horseshit. Maybe he means that Commissioner Gerald Bailey has jurisdiction. If so, after being forced to eviscerate the Department of Law Enforcement due to budget cuts, you’d think Bailey would [...]
Thank you Alex Leary!
Leary’s investigation into Sansom continues this week with “Sansom had help with plan.” (With some assist from the Miami Herald.)
This latest investigative piece takes a closer look at the relationship between Northwest Florida State College President Bob Richburg and Speaker of the Florida House Ray Sansom. It sure does look like these [...]
Alex Leary’s stories on Florida Speaker of the House Ray Sansom are a welcome reminder of the role of journalists in our community. Newspapers have been imploding over the last few years, and the future looks none too bright. Sometimes, when I read a paper that’s full of syndicated content, commercials, fact-free op-eds, sloppy writing, [...]
The gift that keeps on giving. The St. Pete Times teases their Sunday story -
“What’s the building for? House Speaker Ray Sansom directed state money to build a training center for emergency workers. But most of the time, it will house a friend’s jets.”
I can’t wait!
First, let me say that as I was doing some background research on Ray Sansom I discovered that he has done plenty of good legislating. One of his first bills was the 2003 Northwest Florida Legislative Day bill which recognized April 23, 2003, as “Northwest Florida Legislative Day.” It’s this sort of uncompromising vision that [...]
A new feature here at Re/Creating Tampa is SansomWatch. I think this guy is going to be loads of fun.
As I’m sure you probably know Sansom is the new Speaker of the Florida House and was recently caught looking unethical.
Fortunately Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman is there to say what we’re all thinking.
“The [...]
